Wimbledon Day 8 Open Thread and Discussion

LONDON, ENGLAND - JUNE 28: Spectators watch a match on Day Seven of the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on June 28, 2010 in London, England. (Photo by Oli Scarff/Getty Images)

Ladies' Day at the All England Club sees four quarterfinal matches, none of which seems especially likely to produce a huge surprise.  But there's a reason they play the games.

My preview and coverage throughout the day over at SBNation.com/tennis can be followed here.

1. Kim Clijsters (BEL) [8] vs Vera Zvonareva (RUS) [21]
2. Serena Williams (USA) [1] vs Na Li (CHN) [9]

COURT 1 - SHOW COURT - 1.00 PM START

1. Tsvetana Pironkova (BUL) vs Venus Williams (USA) [2]

Vera handles pressure very well

To avoid being being broken. I wonder if that will continue.

Vera looks like she

Is starting to lose it mentally, and become a bit frustrated.

And the first set goes to Clijsters

It looked to me like it was a case of Vera’s standard of play diminishing as the game wore on, rather than anything else.

Lol. I think Zvonareva beating Clijsters counts as one, and Pironkova over Venus surely does.

A much better day

Stupid job…
