The Daily Forehand Freestyles With Ivo Karlovic

Ivo Karlovic celebrates his first rap single going platinum winning a match at Wimbledon via www.wimbledon.org

Ivo Karlovic came into the press room at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic on Wednesday, presumably to discuss his first round win over Rainer Schuettler, a match the 6'10'' Croatian won 6-4, 7-5.  He served big, as always hitting 18 aces.

But I wasn't too interested in that.  He had hit a ton of aces before, he would certainly do it again.  I knew that, he knew that.

What I did want to know about was the recent Wimbledon quarterfinalist's budding hip-hop career, and his rumored collaboration with another Balkan tennis standout.

TDF: I heard you’re collaborating on a rap song with Novak Djokovic. I know you’ve had rap releases before in Croatian—what language is it going to be in, and do you have any plans to move your music career into English any time soon to reach a wider audience?

Ivo Karlovic: No, no, it’s going to be in Croatian, and it’s only for fun, for a hobby.  I don’t think it is going to be in English.

TDF: Next time in English?

Ivo Karlovic: I don’t know, maybe? Who knows.

TDF: What are some of the things you have rapped about before in Croatian? I heard it but I don’t know any Croatian, so…

Ivo Karlovic: Yeah, it is about tennis life, and…what happens after matches…with ladies (laughs).  Nah but it’s only fun, just for fun.  It is not, how you say, my new career…I think the songs should be put on the ATP site...explicit lyrics can be beeped out (laughs).

If you haven't yet had the privilege of hearing Karlovic's first single, "Bas Sve," you can listen to it after the jump.  The audio might be NSFW if your co-workers understand Croatian...

Love it!!!

I usually don’t like big serving tennis for the lack of ralies, but Karlovic is quite a character and pretty fun to watch. The song is funny as heck too!
