Patricia Mayr has found herself down 4-0 to Radwanska in eleven minutes. She could be outta here REAL fast at that rate.

Nice comeback by Stosur to take the first 6-4 after being down 2-4 against Sugiyama.

Patricia Mayr is the first player knocked out of the 2009 US Open.
And then there were 127.

Clijsters Routs Kutuzova 6-1, 6-1
Makes it eight straight wins for her at the US Open, hasn’t lost at it since 2004.

Azarenka and TDF interviewee Vania King also early winners. King only needed three games before Yakimova retired.

Youzhny and Mathieu are playing some pretty yet braindead tennis, as expected.

I think Youzhny will win this one
and Isner is playing some great tennis lately
"We're starting to get into Plush mode," Nyjer Morgan said
Isner running roughshod over Hanescu, the #28 seed. Broken him twice already to go up 5-1.
When you are only winning one of three serve games against John Isner, you’re in trouble.

Nice showing by Britton to get at least one break on Federer.

This Isner-Hanescu tiebreak is a mess. 10-10

Absolutely, would’ve been killer to lose it after all that. And he looks to be feeling the heat more than Hanescu

Meanwhile, Devin Britton breaks to go up a break for the second time, this time for 4-3 in the third. Can he steal a set? I say no…

Definitely, he’s got an incredible head on his shoulders. I saw him win five matches in a third set tiebreak in only his second ever ATP event in Washington in 2007. Mentally he’s one of the absolute best.

And Isner has improved a ton since Washington 2007.

Serena-Glatch has been really low quality stuff so far. 3-1 Serena

Serena cleaned it up nicely, winning 6-4, 6-1. Still not good enough, but much improved.

Over/under on games Dushevina manages tonight? I’ll say 5.

Douchevina losing that game spells curtains for her, I’m thinking. Even just four games into a tied match.

Venus looks a lot more emotional than usual out there, she must really be feeling that knee.

Go Vera!
Vera’s Backhand is just crazy impressive. Too bad her forehand is so not impressive
Agreed
And Venus seems to have not been able to realize that obvious disparity.

Get Hannah Storm off the air!
She is awful, that scoreboard show at 7pm was a joke. “Killer” Cahill" tried to bail her out, but nothing could save that unprepared performance.
Rick Limpert
Agreed. They had Suzy Kolber during Wimbledon, and she wasn’t nearly THIS bad.
Mike Tirico was also calling some matches in New Haven. Guess whoever they can get to make the trip from Bristol they’ll take…
