Abigail Spears and Sesil Karatantcheva played a three set match in 57 minutes yesterday, in the first round of US Open qualifying.

The 0-6, 6-1, 6-0 win for Karatantcheva took less time than some sets do. The fifteen minute first set won by Spears took less time than some games do.

Karatantcheva hasn't been the same player since that positive steroid test the then-fifteen year old blamed on having an abortion. She had made the quarterfinals of the French Open in 2005 (including a third round win over Venus Williams), and is now well outside the top 100.

Maybe this nineteen-game three-set win is just the thing she needs to jump start her career?
