As per the US Open site, your 2009 US Open Women's Headliners: Serena Williams and Svetlana Kuznetsova?
Not #1 Dinara Safina, not American star Venus Williams, not marketing golden girl and former champion Maria Sharapova, not comeback Kim Clijsters, not last year's finalist Jelena Jankovic, but Svetlana Kuznetsova?
Anyone have a theory as to why the organizers think Kuznetsova is the name that's going to sell tickets?

probably just a random guy on the web team who remembers Kuznetsova as a recent finalist.
As for where the money is going, I’ve seen lots of promotional stuff with Sharapova’s picture on it around the city. There must be some with the Williams sisters too, but I can’t recall it offhand.
Also, cheese.
The four faces I’ve seen on US Open Series promotional stuff have been Venus, Serena, Dinara and Sharapova. I haven’t seen Kuznetsova anywhere…
