Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Tandvaidisova

No one I can think of has dropped out of the upper echelon of tennis harder or faster than Nicole Vaidisova. The two-time grand slam semifinalist and former world #7 made the quarterfinals at Wimbledon as recently as 2008, but has since fallen well outside the top 100.

Saturday's loss in the first round of qualifying at Stanford to world #584 Stacey Tan hopefully represents rock bottom. Vaidisova only won three games during the forty-eight minute rout.

It's hard to imagine things getting much worse. After all, she is still only twenty years old.

Good News

Nicole just split up with Radek Stepanek, so it shouldn’t be long before she starts going up the rankings again.

Vaidisova's precipitous drop in rankings.

Great post. She is at 140 now? Wow, good thing she inked a pair of sponsorship deals in 2007. She had 2 big wins over Mauresmo (when Amelie was No. 1) in 2006.

I think she’ll go higher but top 20 is a stretch at this point.
