Tiger Woods was recently named the AP's Athlete of the Decade, beating out Lance Armstrong and Roger Federer by a convincing margin.

Tiger may have gotten more than twice as many votes as Federer, but as I see it, Tiger's numbers pale in comparison to Federer's.

It's unfortunate that the first line in the comparison was almost certainly the one that sealed the honor for the American.

Greetings.

I’m new to this blog. I’m really happy to have a tennis blog to read. Also, I slept with Tiger as well.

Tiger was a poor sport, bad father and husband and terrible role model.

While his adultery puts him in a class by himself, I have always been bothered by Tiger’s cursing and banging clubs after bad shots and losing it with fans who distract him. While there are also tennis players with these traits, Roger is not one of them.

For a better comparison, you should’ve put total weeks at #1 world ranking. And maybe # of times Tiger missed the cut vs. Roger not making the final 16.

Hockey blogging can't get any flatter.

Thats the nature of the beast in golf. The chances of getting beat by some no name is higher.

I think for us to start comparing in different sports we have to put things in perspective. Tigers run this decade was the best and Federers was the best in each of their respective sports.

But lets look at Jack and Pete Sampras. With Jack and other big time golfers not winning a slam for a year or two isss well normal and your chances of missing a cut are much higher than a tennis player like Federer missing a round that he can get to in 6 matches about?
So not to diminish what Federers streak is but we’re comparing it to a golfers work so I think its a lot closer again.

And while Federer did break the all time slams record the career of a tennis player at least in their prime is 5-6 years. For a golfer we saw Jack play for what over 30 years?
So I think we put breaking the slam record in there can’t take away from Tiger because of that hes still on his pace for his sport.

So both Fed and Tiger surpassed those two within a decade (at least by the numbers I still think both Sampras and Jack would take it to both of them)

But now theres also the rivalries. Basically no one for Tiger but when hes not leading he always lose…literally. And for Federer I don’t care what anyone says you can’t be dominated by your rival. Nadal played him competitively on Feds favorite surface and then would go back to the clay and dismantle him. Not to mention beat him in 3 straight slams.

So then you get to who carries their sport as far as getting the attention. And really I still wonder I know the Wimbledon this year was amazing but I thought that was because of the play the matches were amazing. And the final match was what like 6 hours so that was wild.

While Tiger kind of makes and breaks his own sport the ratings for Golf dropped when he was out with that knee injury. He was like prototype Obama in many ways to me actually thats apart of why this story has been on front pages more than 9/11. I think Golf took a hit by around 2 million viewers when Tiger was injured.

So if I HAD to say one or the other it’d have to be Tiger because I think that does deal with being an athlete as well. Being able to be captivating I’m not saying Federer isn’t but people gravitate to Woods for a number of different reasons.
But to me its a tie really and I think both of them are extremely similar.

Anyway thats just between those two though I think we could debate for hours team sports. I honestly don’t even think about these kinds of polls or awards whatever. I really don’t think the people who vote think that much on it anyway. But since Tiger is the most recognizable face in any sport (active) right now and is at least tied with any most dominant athlete he wins at least I believe thats how it came to this. (which I don’t have a problem with)
